Autumn is in full, it's getting colder and colder, therefore your wardrobe can't lack a jacket or a coat. Beside shoes, it's a priority in winter clothing. Here is some advice how to feel comfortable and in line with the newest trends.

A couple decades ago, men didn’t have a big choice if it comes to outerwear. In autumn and winter they used to wear thick and heavy coats. They were very uncomfortable because of the manufacturing from durable and insulated cloth. They protected against the biggest frosts, so everybody wore them regardless of age.

In the 1970s, the classic woolen coat started to be replaced by a light fluffy jacket, which were shorter and easier in use. In everyday fashion they dominated the streets. However, with the passing of time, a man’s coat gained a new universal and modern form. Nowadays we use it only with a suit, but also with jeans or chino trousers. Matching up a bow tie with a casual shirt or a blazer made from a soft knitwear fabric is not a surprising any more . Today, playing with fashion allows you to do more and with a coat you can create many stylings perfectly fitting into smart-casual style.

Duffle coat or a double-breasted one – what’s worth having in the wardrobe?

Men’s winter coats include classic positions that passed the test of time. In a refreshed version, they work well both in elegant stylings with a shirt and suit trousers, as well as in everyday outfits. One of such models is a double-breasted coat reaching down the thigh. It comes from military style because it became popular by sailors. The designers made it to protect them from cold. Now men very often put it on for its universal character. Manufactured from new light fabrics provides warmth and mixes nicely with casual jeans, chinos and long sleeve shirts.

A single-breasted coat is equally comfortable. This model is getting wider towards the bottom and provides maximum freedom of movement. This simple cut is also available in a hooded sports version – it additionally protects from cold and wind. A more loose character has the duffle coat with wooden toggle fastening. The duffle coat’s history reaches the I World War when it used to protect the marines from hard weather conditions. Nowadays we also use them during cold weather, they are loose-fitting, comfortable and can be a base for many smart-casual stylings. This model matches up jeans, a sporty blazer and chino trousers.

Which jacket for winter?

The parka jacket also came from military warehouses to the shops. The design is basing on the American military uniforms used in years 1950 – 1970 and its biggest advantage was durability. They could even stand frosts reaching down -50°C. No wonder their lining looked like filled with a thick and heavy rug. Now they also provide proper warmth despite being much slimmer. The most popular models reach down the thigh or half-thigh. They have a warm furry hood and can easily work with massive hiking boots, e.g. in mustard colour, also with jeans and joggers. They work well in casual stylings and more and more often with smart suits.

How about winter jackets? They are short, but equally warm and comfortable including quilted and fluffy models. However, this name can mislead because nowadays outerwear is unlikely to be produced from natural feather, rather from synthetic fabrics providing warmth. They are also easy to clean. Don’t hesitate then and create a cool look. Wear a winter jacket with joggers and a casual sweatshirt or with a jumper and heavy boots. Remember that a bomber jacket is still in fashion – the winter versions are equipped with a detachable furry hood. It slightly resembles military style and fits into current trends. Notice that this cut can visually widen the silhouette – it’s suitable to slim and tall men.
