Imagine. You walk right into a room where the job interview takes place. You've got only 11 seconds to be subconsciously judged by your future potential employer. This is called the first impression. If you seemed to be a trustworthy and credible person, the interlocutor will open up and trust in your competence. If not? Bye, bye.

Smile, eye contact, full of self-esteem posture. That’s the key to success. To feel confident you should care about proper look during the interview. If you want to apply for a manager vacancy and you’re wearing a T-shirt – no matter if you are the best candidate for this job, you have no chance. The subconsciousness of the head hunter will crush you.

So, how should you dress for a job interview?

If you have to work in a corporation or your domain will be contacts with the customer every single day (bank, insurance company) – select one-colour formal men’s suit in classic style e.g. grey or navy blue. Follow the principle of the three colours, e.g. navy blue suit, one-colour plain tie or a bow tie and white shirt. The shirt should be well tailored, fitted and absolutely with long sleeves.

You need to look professional, elegant and at the same time present your own indivdual style. A bit of creativity among your outfit will be surely noted. Moreover, you’re gonna be considered as a person with ability to see further and broader than others. Nice game changers could be accessories (a tie, a breast pocket) in colours of the company. Try not to go too far with them. Remember that if you wear jewellery, the dress code will accept only cufflinks, a wedding ring and a watch.

If you are sure that in the company that you’re going to apply to, a bit informal outfits are accepted (e.g. in creative sector) try an easy going and more unique style – smart casual one. The proper styling here may be chino trousers, a one-colour shirt and a casual suit jacket.

Remember that regardless of the company’s dress code – during a job interview and other occasions – you need to look neat. Clothes should be perfectly clean, ironed, fitted by the size and shoes that always shine. All of that tells the boss and everybody else that you are the professional.

Good luck!
